Dr. Clayton鈥慗ones is a community-engaged scholar whose research draws on Community-Based Participatory Research and Human-Centered Design. She collaborates directly with patients to develop, implement, and evaluate interventions that optimize self-management behaviors and support healthcare transition readiness, ultimately improving health outcomes. As Principal Investigator, she has led studies on topics such as the role of spirituality in coping with chronic illness, the use of complementary and alternative medicine among adolescents, and transition experiences of young adults living with sickle cell disease (SCD). She also contributed to an NIH-funded project that developed gaming technology to engage adolescents in precision pain management for SCD. Dr. Clayton鈥慗ones leads . Her core research interests include self-management of chronic conditions (particularly SCD), healthcare transition readiness, spirituality and health, qualitative methodologies, community-based participatory research, and human-centered design.
